Wild night in Vancouver amid relaxed COVID-19 restrictions leads to stabbing, arrest
A 25-year-old man is in critical condition after a stabbing Friday night in Vancouver’s Granville Entertainment District, as thousands of people packed the downtown core following relaxed COVID-19 restrictions.
Sgt. Steve Addison, a spokesman for the Vancouver police, said extra officers were patrolling the city Friday night after capacity limits were lifted at bars and restaurants.
“Large crowds began entering the downtown core in the early evening, with some lining up early at nightclubs, and hundreds wandering the entertainment areas. This led to multiple conflicts on the street,” said Addison in a statement Saturday.

What to know about Canada’s updated travel restrictions
The travel landscape is slowly shifting as COVID-19 restrictions ease and the world opens up — though not entirely.
The Canadian government recently announced changes to what travellers can expect when coming and going, beginning later this month. Among those changes are the types of tests accepted upon arrival and whether you’ll still need to quarantine while awaiting test results.

‘Freedom Convoy’ leader Pat King arrested live on social media
Pat King, one of the most vocal members of the “Freedom Convoy” movement, went on social media Friday to livestream his arrest.
“I am being arrested by this officer right now,” he told viewers to his live Facebook feed. “I am being arrested. We will talk to you guys soon.”
Around 12:30 p.m., as rows of police were in a tense faceoff with protesters and supporters near the intersection of Rideau and Sussex and police in vehicles and on horseback were moving in elsewhere, King was approached in his vehicle by a police officer who said: “You are under arrest, sir.”

Interior Health to begin rescheduling surgeries after COVID 19 pause
British Columbia’s Interior Health authority says it’s taking a phased approach to resuming services that were paused last month, including rescheduling postponed surgeries and reopening in-patient services.
A statement from president Susan Brown says the impacts of the Omicron wave of COVID-19 on staffing in the region’s health-care system are beginning to subside.
Brown says staffing isn’t stable enough to safely restore all services next week, but it will reschedule procedures starting next Wednesday and aims to clear the backlog as quickly as possible.
Interior Health says in-patient services will reopen Feb. 23 in Clearwater, where one new registered nurse has been recruited, while nurse-provided primary care services will return to normal that day at the Barriere and District Health Centre.
