The start of a new month means it’s time to reset and re-energize for the month ahead. You can leave behind whatever you didn’t accomplish in the last month and start fresh. If you want to amp up your fitness routine, or are interested in joining a new community, Houston is filled with workout events this month to help reach your goals. 

Going to the gym isn’t the only way to get a daily dose of fitness, local health and wellness communities are packed with workouts that are fun for everyone. For moms, bring your little one to Mommy and Me for a great workout while the kids play in the Sugar Land Plaza. For those with a 9-to-5 workload, release the day with Zumba Fitness at Midtown Park. No matter your schedule, there’s an event that will surely work around it.

Mommy and Me Fitness

April 1

While the babies enjoy some time in the sun, moms can kickstart the day with a workout at  Mommy and Me Fitness at Sugar Land Town Square Plaza. Join Inspired Fitness for a free hour-long workout including strength training and conditioning. You’ll use medicine balls, weights, resistance tubes, and bands for the ultimate sweat session.

Health Wellness and Fitness Fest

April 2

Calling all fitness buffs and workout warriors to the Health Wellness and Fitness Fest for all things healthy. There will be vendors, food, and live workout demonstrations performed by the city’s best instructors and enthusiasts, as well as cash prizes and exciting giveaways. The child and the pet-friendly event does require a ticket entry of $5.

Yoga on Skylawn

April 2

Downtown’s buzzy new hotspot, has partnered with Black Swan Yoga for a free yoga course at the Skylawn. Enjoy the relaxing sounds of nature as you meditate and stretch on the rooftop garden. The free event requires participants to bring their own yoga mat, towel, and water bottle.

Deadlifts for Dood

April 2

Alphaland’s Deadlifts for Dood returns for another year. The charity powerlifting event is a deadlift competition to see who can achieve the highest possible deadlift in three attempts. All proceeds from the event will go towards animal charities around the Houston area. Tickets are required for both participants and spectators varying from $75 to $33.

Yoncé Yoga

April 3

Anyone from the Beyhive looking for a chance to work out to music by Queen Bey should buzz over to Yoncé Yoga. Hosted by Sugar Brown, participants will enjoy a basic yoga flow while listening to the sounds, songs, and hits by Beyoncé. This event does require your own yoga mat, large towel, and ticket entry of $29.

Zumba at Midtown Park

April 5

Skip the gym and dance the night away with Zumba at Midtown Park. The FiTMix community will lead a high-powered workout with cardio, muscle conditioning, and flexibility through dance to give your body the perfect after-work boost. This event is free but requires registration and recommends you bring a water bottle and towel.

Catapult Workout – Long Run

April 9

Houston’s Team Catapult organization provides a safe space to facilitate health and fitness workouts for Houstonians with a disability. Join them for the Catapult Workout, a three-mile-long run through Memorial Park. This free event does not require registration.

Muddy Princess Houston

April 10

Who knew a fun workout could be dirty yet still enjoyable. Muddy Princess Houston returns with its 5-kilometer mud run for women. The 3.1-mile obstacle course is open to all ages and fitness levels as you walk, crawl, climb, slide, and balance your way to the finish line. The event has a registration fee of $59.

Pilates In The Park

April 14

For the ultimate mind-body workout, Visit Discovery Green for Pilates in the Park. Trainer Michelle Furcho will aid participants in increasing their strength while improving flexibility with the perfect cool down from a day of work. The event is open to all skill levels and does not require registration.

Crash Dash Houston Obstacle Course Race

April 30

Crash Dash Houston is currently taking participants for its annual Obstacle Course Race to see who will qualify for the 2022 Grit Games. Open to all fitness levels, the course will test your strength and endurance. Participants have a choice between the competitive Pro Division or the non-competitive Open Division. This event does require a registration fee starting from $79 to $89.
